The Fast & Furious franchise is arguably the most successful action movie franchise in the history of Hollywood. Since 2001 when its first installment opened, the franchise has grossed an astounding $3.6 billion worldwide. Much of this success is owed to the filmmakers never straying from what has made the franchise so successful: fast cars, lots of adrenaline, and action packed scenes.
This has been the tried-and-true formula for the franchise, and with each
subsequent film, the audience has shown its delight by going to the movie theatre in droves and
driving up box office sales dramatically.

In this seventh installment, the familiar crew is back (Dom, Bryan, Letty, Mia & co.) and they are being hunted by the ghost of a dead man. More accurately, the dead man’s brother. After orchestrating the death of Owen Shaw (in Furious 6) the crew returned to their normal lives. But now, Owen’s brother, Deckard Shaw, is out for revenge. First, he seeks out and kills one of their own, Han, in Hong Kong (as seen in Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift). Then, he comes after Bryan and Mia as they settle into their suburban life with their young son.

The sudden appearance and rampage of Deckard Shaw draws out everyone, as they come together to battle him. Director James Wan captures this epic battle of stunning and deathdefying action sequences that appeals directly to fans. There are numerous car chases, car explosions, gun fights and hand-to-hand combats — the best of which is between Michelle Rodriguez (Letty) and decorated MMA fighter, Ronda Rousey. Despite being dressed in beautiful gowns and high heels, the fight is beautifully choreographed and looks appropriately unpleasant.

As the movie rolls towards its ending, it takes out time to pay tribute to one of its own. As many know, Paul Walker (Bryan) was killed in a fatal car crash in November 2014 while this movie was still being filmed. In its final scene, the movie and its other characters pay their respect to Walker in an honorable way that is beautiful and heartfelt. Furious 7 is easily the best film in the franchise so far.

Furious 7 is currently playing in movie theaters worldwide. An eighth installment of the franchise is slated to be released on April 14, 2017.
